FAQ for OTDR, OTM, OTS

Notice: For battery protection and performance, please charge only when battery remaining capacity is low, or adapter should be unplugged. Irregular charging operation may seriously shorten battery life.

Problem: The unit has no power.

Possible Reason

  • Low battery
  • Bad connection between AC/DC adaptor and socket
  • The external power is not plugged in the socket.

Maintenance Method

  • To recharge the battery or replace new one
  • To connect the unit with AC/DC adaptor correctly
  • To check if connect the external power correctly.

Problem: The working time of unit is short

Possible Reason

  • The battery gradually aging due to too long time using
  • Low power;

Maintenance Method

  • To replace the battery
  • To recharge the battery fully.

Problem: The date and time of the unit can't be saved.

Possible Reason

  • The calendar is set wrongly
  • The clock cell is aging due to long time using.

Maintenance Method

  • To open the unit and set the date and time again
  • To replace the clock cell.

Problem: The recharging time is less than 2 hours, then switch to trickle charge.

Possible Reason

  • The voltage output of AC/DC adaptor is lower than 13.8V
  • The temperature outside is higher than 45℃ or lower than 0℃.

Maintenance Method

  • To replace a correct AC/DC adaptor at 13.8V
  • To prolong the recharging time, but don’t charge more than 16 hours.

Problem: The unit can not upload the measurement curves data to a PC.

Possible Reason

  • USB Driver is not correctly installed
  • USB or RS232 cable is damaged
  • Trace Manager Software Edition does not match the software edition inside the unit.

Maintenance Method

  • To install the USB driver correctly
  • To replace USB/ RS232 cable
  • To install the latest “Trace Manager” software edition.

Problem: The measurement distance is very close or the trace is too noisy.

Possible Reason

  • The connector interface or optic port is dirty
  • The ceramic split sleeve inside the connector is broken.

Maintenance Method

  • To clean the connector attached to the unit and the interface of tested fiber
  • To replace the connector or the ceramic split sleeve of the unit.

Problem: LCD of the unit displays slightly and unclearly.

Possible Reason

  • The contrast of LCD is unsuitable.

Maintenance Method

  • To adjust the contrast of LCD.

FAQ for SLS, VLS, OPM, OLT, OFI

Problem: The OFI can't identify the optical signal correctly.

Possible Reason

  • Incorrect position for the tested fiber in the clamp groove.
  • Incorrect clamp side.

Maintenance Method

  • To locate the tested fiber into the clamp groove properly.
  • To change to a correct side of the clamp according to the instruction in user’s manual.

Problem: The unit has no power.

Possible Reason

  • Low battery

  • The external power is not plugged in the socket.

  • To replace the battery
  • To connect the unit with AC/DC adaptor correctly
  • To check if connect the external power correctly.

Problem: The measurement of optical power is not correct.

Possible Reason

  • The connector interface or optic port is dirty.
